How To Cook Wild Turkey Breast In Instant Pot

How Many Minutes Per Pound Should You Cook a Turkey Breast?

You’ll need to cook an Instant Pot turkey breast for about 8 minutes for every pound of meat. Remember that this is based on calculations made with a 6-quart Instant Pot. A different size might require a different time.

Here are some examples:

  • 5-pound turkey x 8 minutes = 40 minutes
  • 5.5-pound turkey x 8 minutes = 44 minutes
  • 6-pound turkey x 8 minutes = 48 minutes

Using the above timing, I’ve experimented with both bone-in and boneless turkey breasts and have consistently gotten good results.

Remember to account for pressurization: the pot will require approximately 10 to 12 minutes to reach pressure, and after the cooking cycle is finished, you will need to wait 10 minutes for the pressure to naturally release. To obtain a more precise estimate of the overall time, add an additional 20 to 22 minutes to the cooking times listed above.

How to Cook Boneless Turkey Breast

Usually, boneless turkey breasts are packaged in netting, which you should take off before beginning. As a result, the breasts will cook more quickly and evenly.

If the two turkey breasts are not the same size, one of them may cook more quickly than the other. To prevent it from overcooking, you might want to remove the smaller turkey breast from the larger one if it is noticeably larger.

How to calculate the cooking time for different-sized breasts:

  • For a turkey breast half that is 2. 5 pounds, which is probably equivalent to a 5-pound turkey overall. A 5-pound turkey would take 40 minutes to cook because a turkey needs to cook for 8 minutes per pound. So, if you have one breast that is 2. 5 pounds, I estimate that cooking time will still be 40 minutes.
  • In the event that the smaller breast weighs just one pound, the cooking time would be determined by double that weight. Since a 2-pound turkey takes 16 minutes to cook, a 1-pound half-breast must take at least 16 minutes.

I read these every day, so hopefully that makes sense. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments.

Be sure to use an instant read thermometer, to make sure the turkey reaches at least 160ºF, because it will continue to heat up as it rests and should reach 165ºF before serving.

Sear The Turkey Breast In The Instant Pot

Now that the turkey is well seasoned, you can start cooking! To do this, add two tablespoons each of olive oil and unsalted butter to the pot, then set the Instant Pot to high sauté. When your Instant Pot reaches the proper temperature and starts to count down, add the turkey breast and sear it thoroughly on both sides of the pot. This process should take about 5 to 8 minutes. After that, take the breast out of the pot and place it on a platter.
